staffordshire bull terriers

Hi all

Just thought I would blow a few myths and reports about STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS. These dogs are also known as ‘staffies'. Like a majority of the people I would listen to reports in the media about these dogs and think it was terrible if someone was injured through theses dogs. Although they are not tall in height due to their muscular and stocky build they can be very strong. Within Great Britain they are the 5th most popular domestic pet. The UK kennel club has mentioned that this type of dog is suitably as a family pet around children.

Originally staffies were breed as a fighting dog, thus they can be prone to seek fighting. For this reason only staffies should not be taken into close contact as they can be aggressive and or snappy towards other dogs. These dogs will however play and or co-habit with other dogs that are not aggressive. Like every dog I feel they will ‘protect his or her own'.

Time to challenge this myth. My youngest son around September last year started to go on about how he wanted a dog, this spread to the rest of my children and then my husband and I started to talk about it. One thing we did agree on thought that is we were getting as family pet it would be after Christmas. After Christmas my kids started when I was doing shopping buying a wee toy for a pup. As you can guess by now I had given in and decided I would get them a pup I did not know what type of dog of nothing.

For approximately a month I phoned dog rescue places about a pup and even when to dog rescue places to look at pups but nothing seemed to appear or I was to late in phoning. I sent my oldest son round to the shops one night and he came back with an address you guessed it had pups and they were staffies. I went round to see the family who had these pups and to see them. They were lovely 6-week old pups and I taken to the pup I eventually got straight away I asked a lot of questions especially when my children's safety was at risk here but the family assured me they were great dogs especially around children. On the Friday night I when to collect my pup with my oldest son; my other two children didn't know they were getting a pup until I when back home with it.

My staffie is now coming up on being a year old and I have nothing but respect for him. We moved to a bigger house 6 months ago and due to my house being bigger he seems to have made his bed a night at the foot of the stairs. One night my daughter missed a few steps and the dog started barking like anyone we got up to see what had happened, the dog was letting us know that she had hurt herself. My husband and dog have a rapour and go everywhere together. My dog is called Charlie and everyone in the family love him my youngest son and his dog sit and watch telly. Charlie will play great with my kids. Anyone other there having doubts about getting a staffie they are great dogs with kids and very loyal.

Now does my dog look like he would hurt anyone?
